SPLIT is a queer folk split tape project made up of lush demos, intimate experiments, and all-new material from 2 of Austin, TX’s most compelling up-and-coming bands.
On Side A, Large Brush Collection’s Nora Predey and Gabriela Torres work with local production company As You Are to record 4 stripped-down demos in their backyard.
Side B introduces B-sides from Creekbed Carter Hogan’s forthcoming album, weaving banjo hymnals, electric chord organs, and audio from trans flash mobs into 4 never-before-heard singles recorded in Carter’s bedroom.

About Large Brush Collection
The music of Large Brush Collection sprouts from the roots of songwriter Nora Predey’s chordal bass into a musical thicket. Joined by Gabriela Torres (harmonies, flute), Dan Magorrian (guitar), and Rishi Bajekal (drums), the band’s textural folk feels at once familiar and utterly surprising. Nora’s lyrics twine themes of transness, strength, sorrow, and generosity that enfold the listener in a warm embrace.
About Creekbed Carter Hogan
Creekbed Carter Hogan is equal parts vaudevillian clown, anticapitalist tramp, and "fingerpicked bittersweet confessionals" (Austin Chronicle). Weaving Catholic legend, folk picking, and trans resilience into striking songs that pierce the soul and tickle the funny bone, Creekbed Carter reclaims country/folk music and the language of holiness to build a world where everyone can feel welcome, understood, loved, and have a stomping good time.

Side B
All songs were played and sung by Carter Hogan in his bedroom.
“Directions” and “The Anatomy of Melancholy” written by Carter.
“Full Time No Benefits” written by Asher Ford and arranged by Carter in their kitchen.
“Pilgrim” is based on a traditional folk ballad, usually sung in a minor key, that has been arranged anew by Carter to reimagine "heaven" as a place where queer and trans people can gather in safety, solidarity, and kinship. Crowd audio taken by Antoinette Grajada on January 23, 2023 at a flash mob organized by Intransitive Arkansas in protest of anti-trans legislature in Fayetteville, AR. For an hour, trans and cis activists danced and sang on a busy street corner in front of the Washington County Courthouse before taking the party to Springdale and Bentonville. Carter would like to express their deep gratitude to the organizers and participants of the flash mob for welcoming him into their protest, both that day and onward.
